UNITED GRAFFITI ARTISTS // NYC 1972 ORIGINALS

The World's First Documented Graffiti Artist Collective & Gallery Movement (1972)

Transforming underground subway steel art into the undisputed vanguard of contemporary American painting.

Founded in 1972 by sociology student Hugo Martinez in collaboration with pioneering subway writers from Washington Heights and the Bronx, United Graffiti Artists (UGA) was the world's very first organized graffiti collective. UGA brought subway writers together to create monumental canvases, leading to historic exhibitions at the Razor Gallery in SoHo and City College that introduced graffiti art to the global fine art world.
