As an original founder of United Graffiti Artists (UGA) in 1972, MICO was among the first writers to take graffiti into gallery settings while infusing his work with fierce political commentary and Puerto Rican solidarity.

As a core original member of United Graffiti Artists (UGA), he helped pioneer the transition of graffiti from train yards onto canvas in historic 1972 SoHo gallery exhibitions.
