South Bronx Art & Knowledge Workshop Collective in Permanent Museum Collections
Turning South Bronx survival and street lettering into monumental works at MoMA and the Whitney.
Founded in 1982 at Intermediate School 52 in the South Bronx by Tim Rollins with young graffiti writers Angel Abreu, Jorge Abreu, Carlos Rivera, Nelson Savinon, and Robert Branch, Kids of Survival (K.O.S.) created museum works held in over 120 major institutions worldwide.
Born in the Bronx in 1961, John 'CRASH' Matos began bombing trains at age 13 and curated the landmark 1980 'Graffiti Art Success for America' exhibition at Fashion Moda. A key member of CIA and longtime TATS CRU collaborator, Crash also painted custom Stratocaster guitars for Eric Clapton.
